The Samsung I9100 Galaxy S II is Samsung's latest attempt to grab your attention, and after going through the spec sheet, there is a fair bit here worth talking about. Announced in 2011, February. Released 2011, April, it arrives at a time when the competition is as tight as ever.
Design & Display
On the front you get a 4.3 inches, 52.6 cm 2 (~63.5% screen-to-body ratio) panel, pushing a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels, 5:3 ratio (~217 ppi density), and in real-world use it looks bright, crisp and easy on the eyes. It is not trying to reinvent the wheel with its design, but it does look the part. You can pick it up in a few finishes, including Black.
Performance & Software
At the heart of it sits the Exynos 4210 Dual, paired with 1GB of RAM, which means smooth scrolling, quick app switching and no real hiccups in normal use. It runs Android 2.3.4 (Gingerbread), upgradable to 4.1 (Jelly Bean), TouchWiz UI 4 out of the box, so the software experience feels current.
Camera
On the camera side, the Samsung I9100 Galaxy S II is led by a 8 MP main sensor. It is not a pro camera rig, but for everyday memories it gets the job done nicely.
Battery
Keeping the lights on is a Removable Li-Ion 1650 mAh battery cell, and that is a healthy number that keeps range anxiety at bay.
Our Opinion
Coming to the important bit, our opinion on the Samsung I9100 Galaxy S II. Samsung has clearly gone for substance over gimmicks here, and we respect that approach. It gets the basics right, offering a dependable main camera, a crisp display, which is exactly what most buyers are really after. In day-to-day use it feels like the kind of device you can rely on, whether you are replying to messages, scrolling through social media, watching videos or taking the odd photo. There are rivals that beat it in one area or another, as is always the case in this segment. Overall though, the Samsung I9100 Galaxy S II is easy to recommend to the right buyer.
