Phone Opinions Review

Samsung has added another interesting option to its lineup with the all-new Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5G, and on paper it looks like a device that wants to be your daily driver. Announced in 2020, July 22, it arrives at a time when the competition is as tight as ever.

Design & Display

Up front there is a 6.7 inches, 101.6 cm 2 (~82.5% screen-to-body ratio) screen, pushing a resolution of 1080 x 2636 pixels (~425 ppi density), and in real-world use it looks bright, crisp and easy on the eyes. The build feels well put together, and Samsung has clearly paid attention to the in-hand feel. You can pick it up in a few finishes, including Mystic Grey.

Performance & Software

Under the hood you will find the Qualcomm SM8250 Snapdragon 865 5G+ (7 nm+), paired with 8GB of RAM, which means smooth scrolling, quick app switching and no real hiccups in normal use. It runs Android 10, upgradable to Android 13, One UI 5 out of the box, so the software experience feels current.

Camera

The camera setup is one of the talking points here, with a 12 MP sensor doing the heavy lifting. Point-and-shoot results are reliable, and that is exactly what most buyers want.

Battery

Keeping the lights on is a Li-Po 3300 mAh cell, which should comfortably see most people through a full day on a single charge.

Our Opinion

Coming to the important bit, our opinion on the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5G. Samsung has clearly gone for substance over gimmicks here, and we respect that approach. It gets the basics right, offering 5G connectivity, a dependable main camera, a crisp display, which is exactly what most buyers are really after. In day-to-day use it feels like the kind of device you can rely on, whether you are replying to messages, scrolling through social media, watching videos or taking the odd photo. You could nitpick a few things, as you can with any phone in this bracket. But taken as a whole, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5G is a sensible, well-judged choice that should keep most users happy for a good while. If you have used this device or are planning to pick one up, do let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
