Phone Opinions Review

With the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, Samsung is clearly aiming at buyers who want a well-rounded phone without too many compromises. Here is our take on what it brings to the table. Announced in 2025, January 22, it arrives at a time when the competition is as tight as ever.

Design & Display

Up front there is a 6.9 inches, 116.9 cm 2 (~92.5% screen-to-body ratio) screen, pushing a resolution of 1440 x 3120 pixels, 19.5:9 ratio (~498 ppi density), which is more than sharp enough for everyday use, streaming and a bit of gaming. It is not trying to reinvent the wheel with its design, but it does look the part. You can pick it up in a few finishes, including Titanium Silver Blue.

Performance & Software

At the heart of it sits the Qualcomm SM8750-AC Snapdragon 8 Elite (3 nm), paired with 12GB of RAM. For the kind of tasks most of us throw at a phone, there is plenty of muscle here. It runs Android 15, upgradable to Android 17, up to 7 major OS updates, One UI 9 out of the box, so the software experience feels current.

Camera

The camera setup is one of the talking points here, with a 200 MP sensor doing the heavy lifting. It is not a pro camera rig, but for everyday memories it gets the job done nicely.

Battery

Keeping the lights on is a Li-Ion 5000 mAh cell, which should comfortably see most people through a full day on a single charge.

Our Opinion

After spending time with the spec sheet and what Samsung is promising, here is where we land. Samsung has clearly gone for substance over gimmicks here, and we respect that approach. It gets the basics right, offering strong battery life, a dependable main camera, a crisp display, which is exactly what most buyers are really after. In day-to-day use it feels like the kind of device you can rely on, whether you are replying to messages, scrolling through social media, watching videos or taking the odd photo. There are rivals that beat it in one area or another, as is always the case in this segment. But taken as a whole, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra is a sensible, well-judged choice that should keep most users happy for a good while.
