Phone Opinions Review

Samsung has added another interesting option to its lineup with the all-new Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, and on paper it looks like a device that wants to be your daily driver. Announced in 2024, January 17, it arrives at a time when the competition is as tight as ever.

Design & Display

On the front you get a 6.8 inches, 113.5 cm 2 (~88.5% screen-to-body ratio) panel, pushing a resolution of 1440 x 3120 pixels, 19.5:9 ratio (~505 ppi density), and in real-world use it looks bright, crisp and easy on the eyes. In terms of design, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra keeps things modern and comfortable to hold. You can pick it up in a few finishes, including Titanium Black.

Performance & Software

At the heart of it sits the Qualcomm SM8650-AC Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 (4 nm), paired with 12GB of RAM. For the kind of tasks most of us throw at a phone, there is plenty of muscle here. It runs Android 14, upgradable to Android 17, up to 7 major OS updates, One UI 9 out of the box, so the software experience feels current.

Camera

On the camera side, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is led by a 200 MP main sensor (200 MP, f/1.7, 24mm (wide), 1/1.3", 0.6µm, multi-directional PDAF, OIS 10 MP, f/2.4, 67mm …). It is not a pro camera rig, but for everyday memories it gets the job done nicely.

Battery

There is a Li-Ion 5000 mAh battery inside, which should comfortably see most people through a full day on a single charge.

Our Opinion

So, what do we actually make of the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra? What you are getting is a device that quietly covers the fundamentals rather than shouting about them. It gets the basics right, offering strong battery life, a dependable main camera, a crisp display, which is exactly what most buyers are really after. In day-to-day use it feels like the kind of device you can rely on, whether you are replying to messages, scrolling through social media, watching videos or taking the odd photo. You could nitpick a few things, as you can with any phone in this bracket. Even so, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra holds its own and represents a solid, no-nonsense buy.
