With the Samsung Galaxy S22 5G, Samsung is clearly aiming at buyers who want a well-rounded phone without too many compromises. Here is our take on what it brings to the table. Announced in 2022, February 09, it arrives at a time when the competition is as tight as ever.
Design & Display
Up front there is a 6.1 inches, 90.1 cm 2 (~87.4% screen-to-body ratio) screen, pushing a resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels, 19.5:9 ratio (~425 ppi density). Colours look punchy and text stays clean, so you will not have much to complain about here. It is not trying to reinvent the wheel with its design, but it does look the part. You can pick it up in a few finishes, including Phantom Black.
Performance & Software
Powering the Samsung Galaxy S22 5G is the Exynos 2200 (4 nm) - Europe Qualcomm SM8450 Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 (4 nm) - ROW, paired with 8GB of RAM, which means smooth scrolling, quick app switching and no real hiccups in normal use. It runs Android 12, up to 4 major OS updates, One UI 8 out of the box, so the software experience feels current.
Camera
Photography is handled by a main 50 MP shooter that should cover most situations, from daylight shots to the occasional low-light frame. Point-and-shoot results are reliable, and that is exactly what most buyers want.
Battery
There is a Li-Ion 3700 mAh battery inside, which should comfortably see most people through a full day on a single charge.
Our Opinion
Coming to the important bit, our opinion on the Samsung Galaxy S22 5G. Samsung has clearly gone for substance over gimmicks here, and we respect that approach. It gets the basics right, offering a dependable main camera, a crisp display, which is exactly what most buyers are really after. If your priority is a phone that just works, day in and day out, then this one deserves a spot on your shortlist. Is it perfect? No phone is, and you will always find a sharper camera or a faster chip somewhere else for a little more money. Even so, the Samsung Galaxy S22 5G holds its own and represents a solid, no-nonsense buy.
