Samsung Galaxy S20 is one of those devices that tries to pack a lot into one package. Let us see if Samsung has managed to put together a phone that is actually worth your money. Announced in 2020, February 11, it arrives at a time when the competition is as tight as ever.
Design & Display
Up front there is a 6.2 inches, 93.8 cm 2 (~89.5% screen-to-body ratio) screen, pushing a resolution of 1440 x 3200 pixels, 20:9 ratio (~563 ppi density). Colours look punchy and text stays clean, so you will not have much to complain about here. In terms of design, the Samsung Galaxy S20 keeps things modern and comfortable to hold. You can pick it up in a few finishes, including Cosmic Grey.
Performance & Software
At the heart of it sits the Exynos 990 (7 nm+) - Global Qualcomm SM8250 Snapdragon 865 5G (7 nm+) - USA, paired with 8GB of RAM. For the kind of tasks most of us throw at a phone, there is plenty of muscle here. It runs Android 10, upgradable to Android 13, One UI 5 out of the box, so the software experience feels current.
Camera
On the camera side, the Samsung Galaxy S20 is led by a 12 MP main sensor (12 MP, f/1.8, 26mm (wide), 1/1.76", 1.8µm, dual pixel PDAF, OIS 64 MP, f/2.0, 29mm (teleph…). It is not a pro camera rig, but for everyday memories it gets the job done nicely.
Battery
Battery duties are handled by a Li-Ion 4000 mAh unit, and that is a healthy number that keeps range anxiety at bay.
Our Opinion
Coming to the important bit, our opinion on the Samsung Galaxy S20. Samsung has clearly gone for substance over gimmicks here, and we respect that approach. It gets the basics right, offering 5G connectivity, a dependable main camera, a crisp display, which is exactly what most buyers are really after. If your priority is a phone that just works, day in and day out, then this one deserves a spot on your shortlist. Is it perfect? No phone is, and you will always find a sharper camera or a faster chip somewhere else for a little more money. But taken as a whole, the Samsung Galaxy S20 is a sensible, well-judged choice that should keep most users happy for a good while.
