Samsung has added another interesting option to its lineup with the all-new Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G, and on paper it looks like a device that wants to be your daily driver. Announced in 2020, February 11, it arrives at a time when the competition is as tight as ever.
Design & Display
On the front you get a 6.9 inches, 114.0 cm 2 (~89.9% screen-to-body ratio) panel, pushing a resolution of 1440 x 3200 pixels, 20:9 ratio (~511 ppi density). Colours look punchy and text stays clean, so you will not have much to complain about here. The build feels well put together, and Samsung has clearly paid attention to the in-hand feel. You can pick it up in a few finishes, including Cosmic Grey.
Performance & Software
Powering the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G is the Exynos 990 (7 nm+) - Global Qualcomm SM8250 Snapdragon 865 5G (7 nm+) - USA, paired with 12GB of RAM, which means smooth scrolling, quick app switching and no real hiccups in normal use. It runs Android 10, upgradable to Android 13, One UI 5.1 out of the box, so the software experience feels current.
Camera
On the camera side, the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G is led by a 108 MP main sensor (108 MP, f/1.8, 26mm (wide), 1/1.33", 0.8µm, PDAF, OIS 48 MP, f/3.5, 103mm (periscope telep…). Expect solid detail in good light, with the usual softness creeping in once the sun goes down.
Battery
Battery duties are handled by a Li-Ion 5000 mAh unit, and that is a healthy number that keeps range anxiety at bay.
Our Opinion
Coming to the important bit, our opinion on the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G. What you are getting is a device that quietly covers the fundamentals rather than shouting about them. It gets the basics right, offering strong battery life, 5G connectivity, a dependable main camera, which is exactly what most buyers are really after. For someone who simply wants a dependable daily driver that will not let them down halfway through the day, this ticks a lot of boxes. Is it perfect? No phone is, and you will always find a sharper camera or a faster chip somewhere else for a little more money. But taken as a whole, the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G is a sensible, well-judged choice that should keep most users happy for a good while.
