The Samsung Galaxy S20 FE is Samsung's latest attempt to grab your attention, and after going through the spec sheet, there is a fair bit here worth talking about. Announced in 2020, September 23, it arrives at a time when the competition is as tight as ever.
Design & Display
On the front you get a 6.5 inches, 101.0 cm 2 (~84.8% screen-to-body ratio) panel, pushing a resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels, 20:9 ratio (~407 ppi density), which is more than sharp enough for everyday use, streaming and a bit of gaming. The build feels well put together, and Samsung has clearly paid attention to the in-hand feel. You can pick it up in a few finishes, including Cloud Lavender.
Performance & Software
At the heart of it sits the Exynos 990 (7 nm+) - Version 1 Qualcomm SM8250 Snapdragon 865 5G (7 nm+) - Version 2, paired with 6GB of RAM, which means smooth scrolling, quick app switching and no real hiccups in normal use. It runs Android 10, upgradable to Android 13, One UI 5.1 out of the box, so the software experience feels current.
Camera
The camera setup is one of the talking points here, with a 12 MP sensor doing the heavy lifting. Point-and-shoot results are reliable, and that is exactly what most buyers want.
Battery
There is a Li-Ion 4500 mAh battery inside, which should comfortably see most people through a full day on a single charge.
Our Opinion
So, what do we actually make of the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE? This is a phone that does not try to be the flashiest option on the shelf, and honestly that works in its favour. It gets the basics right, offering strong battery life, 5G connectivity, a dependable main camera, which is exactly what most buyers are really after. In day-to-day use it feels like the kind of device you can rely on, whether you are replying to messages, scrolling through social media, watching videos or taking the odd photo. You could nitpick a few things, as you can with any phone in this bracket. Even so, the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE holds its own and represents a solid, no-nonsense buy.
