Phone Opinions Review

Samsung Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 is one of those devices that tries to pack a lot into one package. Let us see if Samsung has managed to put together a phone that is actually worth your money. Announced in 2014, January. Released 2014, February, it arrives at a time when the competition is as tight as ever.

Design & Display

On the front you get a 12.2 inches, 431.6 cm 2 (~71.6% screen-to-body ratio) panel, pushing a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels, 16:10 ratio (~247 ppi density), which is more than sharp enough for everyday use, streaming and a bit of gaming. It is not trying to reinvent the wheel with its design, but it does look the part. You can pick it up in a few finishes, including Black.

Performance & Software

Under the hood you will find the Exynos 5420 Octa (28 nm), paired with 3GB of RAM, which means smooth scrolling, quick app switching and no real hiccups in normal use. It runs Android 4.4 (KitKat), TouchWiz UI out of the box, so the software experience feels current.

Camera

On the camera side, the Samsung Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 is led by a 8 MP main sensor. Expect solid detail in good light, with the usual softness creeping in once the sun goes down.

Battery

There is a Li-Ion 9500 mAh, non-removable battery inside, and that is a healthy number that keeps range anxiety at bay.

Our Opinion

Coming to the important bit, our opinion on the Samsung Galaxy Note Pro 12.2. Samsung has clearly gone for substance over gimmicks here, and we respect that approach. It gets the basics right, offering strong battery life, a dependable main camera, a crisp display, which is exactly what most buyers are really after. In day-to-day use it feels like the kind of device you can rely on, whether you are replying to messages, scrolling through social media, watching videos or taking the odd photo. There are rivals that beat it in one area or another, as is always the case in this segment. Even so, the Samsung Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 holds its own and represents a solid, no-nonsense buy.
