Phone Opinions Review

Samsung Galaxy Note FE is one of those devices that tries to pack a lot into one package. Let us see if Samsung has managed to put together a phone that is actually worth your money. Announced in 2017, July. Released 2017, July, it arrives at a time when the competition is as tight as ever.

Design & Display

On the front you get a 5.7 inches, 89.6 cm 2 (~79.0% screen-to-body ratio) panel, pushing a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels, 16:9 ratio (~515 ppi density), which is more than sharp enough for everyday use, streaming and a bit of gaming. It is not trying to reinvent the wheel with its design, but it does look the part. You can pick it up in a few finishes, including Black Onyx.

Performance & Software

At the heart of it sits the Exynos 8890 Octa (14 nm), paired with 4GB of RAM, which means smooth scrolling, quick app switching and no real hiccups in normal use. It runs Android 7.1.1 (Nougat), upgradable to Android 9.0 (Pie), One UI out of the box, so the software experience feels current.

Camera

Photography is handled by a main 12 MP shooter that should cover most situations, from daylight shots to the occasional low-light frame. Point-and-shoot results are reliable, and that is exactly what most buyers want.

Battery

There is a Li-Ion 3200 mAh, non-removable battery inside, and that is a healthy number that keeps range anxiety at bay.

Our Opinion

After spending time with the spec sheet and what Samsung is promising, here is where we land. This is a phone that does not try to be the flashiest option on the shelf, and honestly that works in its favour. It gets the basics right, offering a dependable main camera, a crisp display, which is exactly what most buyers are really after. For someone who simply wants a dependable daily driver that will not let them down halfway through the day, this ticks a lot of boxes. You could nitpick a few things, as you can with any phone in this bracket. Overall though, the Samsung Galaxy Note FE is easy to recommend to the right buyer.
