Phone Opinions Review

Samsung has added another interesting option to its lineup with the all-new Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 Wi-Fi, and on paper it looks like a device that wants to be your daily driver. Announced in 2013, February. Released 2013, April, it arrives at a time when the competition is as tight as ever.

Design & Display

On the front you get a 8.0 inches, 185.6 cm 2 (~64.8% screen-to-body ratio) panel, pushing a resolution of 800 x 1280 pixels, 16:10 ratio (~189 ppi density), and in real-world use it looks bright, crisp and easy on the eyes. The build feels well put together, and Samsung has clearly paid attention to the in-hand feel. You can pick it up in a few finishes, including Black.

Performance & Software

At the heart of it sits the Exynos 4412 Quad (32 nm), paired with 2GB of RAM. That combination should handle day-to-day multitasking and most games without breaking a sweat. It runs Android 4.1.2 (Jelly Bean), upgradable to 4.4 (KitKat) out of the box, so the software experience feels current.

Camera

On the camera side, the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 Wi-Fi is led by a 5 MP main sensor. It is not a pro camera rig, but for everyday memories it gets the job done nicely.

Battery

Battery duties are handled by a Li-Ion 4600 mAh, non-removable unit. With moderate use you can expect to end the day with charge to spare.

Our Opinion

Coming to the important bit, our opinion on the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 Wi-Fi. Samsung has clearly gone for substance over gimmicks here, and we respect that approach. It gets the basics right, offering strong battery life, a dependable main camera, a crisp display, which is exactly what most buyers are really after. If your priority is a phone that just works, day in and day out, then this one deserves a spot on your shortlist. You could nitpick a few things, as you can with any phone in this bracket. Overall though, the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 Wi-Fi is easy to recommend to the right buyer. If you have used this device or are planning to pick one up, do let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
