Phone Opinions Review

Samsung has added another interesting option to its lineup with the all-new Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Neo, and on paper it looks like a device that wants to be your daily driver. Announced in 2014, January. Released 2014, February, it arrives at a time when the competition is as tight as ever.

Design & Display

Up front there is a 5.5 inches, 83.4 cm 2 (~72.6% screen-to-body ratio) screen, pushing a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels, 16:9 ratio (~267 ppi density), and in real-world use it looks bright, crisp and easy on the eyes. In terms of design, the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Neo keeps things modern and comfortable to hold. You can pick it up in a few finishes, including Black.

Performance & Software

Under the hood you will find the Exynos 5260 Hexa, paired with 2GB of RAM. That combination should handle day-to-day multitasking and most games without breaking a sweat. It runs Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean), upgradable to 5.1.1 (Lollipop), TouchWiz UI out of the box, so the software experience feels current.

Camera

On the camera side, the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Neo is led by a 8 MP main sensor. It is not a pro camera rig, but for everyday memories it gets the job done nicely.

Battery

Keeping the lights on is a Li-Ion 3100 mAh, removable cell, and that is a healthy number that keeps range anxiety at bay.

Our Opinion

Coming to the important bit, our opinion on the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Neo. Samsung has clearly gone for substance over gimmicks here, and we respect that approach. It gets the basics right, offering a dependable main camera, a crisp display, which is exactly what most buyers are really after. If your priority is a phone that just works, day in and day out, then this one deserves a spot on your shortlist. Is it perfect? No phone is, and you will always find a sharper camera or a faster chip somewhere else for a little more money. But taken as a whole, the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Neo is a sensible, well-judged choice that should keep most users happy for a good while. If you have used this device or are planning to pick one up, do let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
