Samsung is gearing up to launch the much-awaited Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ handset on March 29 at the Galaxy Unpacked 2017 event. According to reports, the company will also launch a refreshed variant of the Samsung Gear 360 Pro camera along with the flagship smartphones.
Touted as an upgraded edition to the Gear 360 launched during the sidelines of the Galaxy S7 in 2016, the new device was reportedly spotted on Zauba with model number SM-R210 in November 2016. Based on the rumors from multiple sources, the new device will be likely the new Gear 360 Pro camera.
The highlight of Gear 360 Pro will be the integration of 360-degree live streaming support. While the Gear 360 worked with the Galaxy phones, we expect the company to add support for all major handsets in the upcoming Pro model. Meanwhile, the video player included by default in the new Galaxy S8 will also provide support for 360-degree.
If Samsung decided to provided support the latest video technology, you could expect a bigger battery capacity such as 3500mAh in the Galaxy S8 and 4000mAh in the Galaxy S8+ respectively. Moreover, the Pro camera will provide support for capturing images up to 50MP with an enhanced image sensor. Samsung will also add improvements to 4K video with additional filters.
A big drawback of Gear 360 Pro Camera is that it will not ship with a display. Hence, you need to get it connected to any of the Galaxy smartphones. It is also possible to merge two 180-degree videos. Despite the absence of a display, you will be able to live stream 360-degree videos. The camera will also provide support for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and NFC.
Regarding the cost, the camera will cost $200 more than the currently available Gear 360. It remains to be seen as to whether Samsung will launch the camera in countries outside the US.
