Apple has added another interesting option to its lineup with the all-new Apple Watch Series 9, and on paper it looks like a device that wants to be your daily driver. Announced in 2023, September 12, it arrives at a time when the competition is as tight as ever.
Design & Display
The Apple Watch Series 9 comes with a 1.9 inches display, pushing a resolution of 484 x 396 pixels (~326 ppi density), which is more than sharp enough for everyday use, streaming and a bit of gaming. It is not trying to reinvent the wheel with its design, but it does look the part. You can pick it up in a few finishes, including Graphite.
Performance & Software
At the heart of it sits the Apple S9. That combination should handle day-to-day multitasking and most games without breaking a sweat. It runs watchOS 10, upgradable to watchOS 27 out of the box, so the software experience feels current.
Camera
The camera setup is one of the talking points here, with a main sensor doing the heavy lifting. It is not a pro camera rig, but for everyday memories it gets the job done nicely.
Battery
Keeping the lights on is a Li-Ion 308 mAh cell, and that is a healthy number that keeps range anxiety at bay.
Our Opinion
After spending time with the spec sheet and what Apple is promising, here is where we land. This is a phone that does not try to be the flashiest option on the shelf, and honestly that works in its favour. It gets the basics right, offering a crisp display, which is exactly what most buyers are really after. In day-to-day use it feels like the kind of device you can rely on, whether you are replying to messages, scrolling through social media, watching videos or taking the odd photo. Is it perfect? No phone is, and you will always find a sharper camera or a faster chip somewhere else for a little more money. Even so, the Apple Watch Series 9 holds its own and represents a solid, no-nonsense buy.
