Apple has added another interesting option to its lineup with the all-new Apple Watch Series 3 Aluminum, and on paper it looks like a device that wants to be your daily driver. Announced in 2017, September. Released 2017, September, it arrives at a time when the competition is as tight as ever.
Design & Display
Up front there is a 1.65 inches screen, pushing a resolution of 390 x 312 pixels (~303 ppi density), and in real-world use it looks bright, crisp and easy on the eyes. It is not trying to reinvent the wheel with its design, but it does look the part. You can pick it up in a few finishes, including Silver.
Performance & Software
Powering the Apple Watch Series 3 Aluminum is the Apple S3. That combination should handle day-to-day multitasking and most games without breaking a sweat. It runs watchOS 4.0, upgradable to watchOS 8.7 out of the box, so the software experience feels current.
Camera
The camera setup is one of the talking points here, with a main sensor doing the heavy lifting. It is not a pro camera rig, but for everyday memories it gets the job done nicely.
Battery
There is a Li-Ion 341 mAh (1.34 Wh), non-removable battery inside, and that is a healthy number that keeps range anxiety at bay.
Our Opinion
Coming to the important bit, our opinion on the Apple Watch Series 3 Aluminum. What you are getting is a device that quietly covers the fundamentals rather than shouting about them. It gets the basics right, offering a crisp display, which is exactly what most buyers are really after. For someone who simply wants a dependable daily driver that will not let them down halfway through the day, this ticks a lot of boxes. Is it perfect? No phone is, and you will always find a sharper camera or a faster chip somewhere else for a little more money. Overall though, the Apple Watch Series 3 Aluminum is easy to recommend to the right buyer.
