Apple has added another interesting option to its lineup with the all-new Apple iPhone 16 Plus, and on paper it looks like a device that wants to be your daily driver. Announced in 2024, September 09, it arrives at a time when the competition is as tight as ever.
Design & Display
Up front there is a 6.7 inches, 110.2 cm 2 (~88.0% screen-to-body ratio) screen, pushing a resolution of 1290 x 2796 pixels, 19.5:9 ratio (~460 ppi density). Colours look punchy and text stays clean, so you will not have much to complain about here. It is not trying to reinvent the wheel with its design, but it does look the part. You can pick it up in a few finishes, including Black.
Performance & Software
At the heart of it sits the Apple A18 (3 nm), paired with 8GB of RAM. For the kind of tasks most of us throw at a phone, there is plenty of muscle here. It runs iOS 18, upgradable to iOS 27 out of the box, so the software experience feels current.
Camera
On the camera side, the Apple iPhone 16 Plus is led by a 48 MP main sensor (48 MP, f/1.6, 26mm (wide), 1/1.56", 1.0µm, dual pixel PDAF, sensor-shift OIS 12 MP, f/2.2,…). It is not a pro camera rig, but for everyday memories it gets the job done nicely.
Battery
Battery duties are handled by a Li-Ion 4674 mAh unit. With moderate use you can expect to end the day with charge to spare.
Our Opinion
After spending time with the spec sheet and what Apple is promising, here is where we land. This is a phone that does not try to be the flashiest option on the shelf, and honestly that works in its favour. It gets the basics right, offering strong battery life, a dependable main camera, a crisp display, which is exactly what most buyers are really after. If your priority is a phone that just works, day in and day out, then this one deserves a spot on your shortlist. There are rivals that beat it in one area or another, as is always the case in this segment. Overall though, the Apple iPhone 16 Plus is easy to recommend to the right buyer.
