The Apple iPad Wi-Fi is Apple's latest attempt to grab your attention, and after going through the spec sheet, there is a fair bit here worth talking about. Announced in 2010, January. Released 2010, March, it arrives at a time when the competition is as tight as ever.
Design & Display
On the front you get a 9.7 inches, 291.4 cm 2 (~63.3% screen-to-body ratio) panel, pushing a resolution of 768 x 1024 pixels, 4:3 ratio (~132 ppi density), which is more than sharp enough for everyday use, streaming and a bit of gaming. In terms of design, the Apple iPad Wi-Fi keeps things modern and comfortable to hold. You can pick it up in a few finishes, including Silver.
Performance & Software
Under the hood you will find the Apple A4 (45 nm). That combination should handle day-to-day multitasking and most games without breaking a sweat. It runs iOS 4, upgradable to iOS 5.1.1 out of the box, so the software experience feels current.
Camera
The camera setup is one of the talking points here, with a main sensor doing the heavy lifting. Point-and-shoot results are reliable, and that is exactly what most buyers want.
Battery
There is a Non-removable Li-Po 6600 mAh battery (24.8 Wh) battery inside, which should comfortably see most people through a full day on a single charge.
Our Opinion
After spending time with the spec sheet and what Apple is promising, here is where we land. What you are getting is a device that quietly covers the fundamentals rather than shouting about them. It gets the basics right, offering strong battery life, a crisp display, which is exactly what most buyers are really after. If your priority is a phone that just works, day in and day out, then this one deserves a spot on your shortlist. There are rivals that beat it in one area or another, as is always the case in this segment. Even so, the Apple iPad Wi-Fi holds its own and represents a solid, no-nonsense buy.
