The Apple iPad 3 Wi-Fi is Apple's latest attempt to grab your attention, and after going through the spec sheet, there is a fair bit here worth talking about. Announced in 2012, March. Released 2012, March 16, it arrives at a time when the competition is as tight as ever.
Design & Display
The Apple iPad 3 Wi-Fi comes with a 9.7 inches, 291.4 cm 2 (~65.1% screen-to-body ratio) display, pushing a resolution of 1536 x 2048 pixels, 4:3 ratio (~264 ppi density), and in real-world use it looks bright, crisp and easy on the eyes. In terms of design, the Apple iPad 3 Wi-Fi keeps things modern and comfortable to hold. You can pick it up in a few finishes, including Black.
Performance & Software
Under the hood you will find the Apple A5X (45 nm), paired with 1GB of RAM, which means smooth scrolling, quick app switching and no real hiccups in normal use. It runs iOS 5.1, upgradable to iOS 9.3.5 out of the box, so the software experience feels current.
Camera
The camera setup is one of the talking points here, with a 5 MP sensor doing the heavy lifting. Expect solid detail in good light, with the usual softness creeping in once the sun goes down.
Battery
There is a Non-removable Li-Po 11560 mAh battery (42.5 Wh) battery inside, which should comfortably see most people through a full day on a single charge.
Our Opinion
After spending time with the spec sheet and what Apple is promising, here is where we land. Apple has clearly gone for substance over gimmicks here, and we respect that approach. It gets the basics right, offering strong battery life, a dependable main camera, a crisp display, which is exactly what most buyers are really after. If your priority is a phone that just works, day in and day out, then this one deserves a spot on your shortlist. Is it perfect? No phone is, and you will always find a sharper camera or a faster chip somewhere else for a little more money. But taken as a whole, the Apple iPad 3 Wi-Fi is a sensible, well-judged choice that should keep most users happy for a good while.
