Apple has added another interesting option to its lineup with the all-new Apple iPad 2 Wi-Fi, and on paper it looks like a device that wants to be your daily driver. Announced in 2011, March. Released 2011, March, it arrives at a time when the competition is as tight as ever.
Design & Display
Up front there is a 9.7 inches, 291.4 cm 2 (~65.1% screen-to-body ratio) screen, pushing a resolution of 768 x 1024 pixels, 4:3 ratio (~132 ppi density). Colours look punchy and text stays clean, so you will not have much to complain about here. The build feels well put together, and Apple has clearly paid attention to the in-hand feel. You can pick it up in a few finishes, including Black.
Performance & Software
Powering the Apple iPad 2 Wi-Fi is the Apple A5 (45 nm), which means smooth scrolling, quick app switching and no real hiccups in normal use. It runs iOS 4, upgradable to iOS 9.3.5 out of the box, so the software experience feels current.
Camera
The camera setup is one of the talking points here, with a 0.7 MP sensor doing the heavy lifting. Point-and-shoot results are reliable, and that is exactly what most buyers want.
Battery
Keeping the lights on is a Non-removable Li-Po 6930 mAh battery (25 Wh) cell. With moderate use you can expect to end the day with charge to spare.
Our Opinion
So, what do we actually make of the Apple iPad 2 Wi-Fi? This is a phone that does not try to be the flashiest option on the shelf, and honestly that works in its favour. It gets the basics right, offering strong battery life, a dependable main camera, a crisp display, which is exactly what most buyers are really after. For someone who simply wants a dependable daily driver that will not let them down halfway through the day, this ticks a lot of boxes. Is it perfect? No phone is, and you will always find a sharper camera or a faster chip somewhere else for a little more money. Overall though, the Apple iPad 2 Wi-Fi is easy to recommend to the right buyer.
