The Apple iPad 2 CDMA is Apple's latest attempt to grab your attention, and after going through the spec sheet, there is a fair bit here worth talking about. Announced in 2011, March. Released 2011, March, it arrives at a time when the competition is as tight as ever.
Design & Display
Up front there is a 9.7 inches, 291.4 cm 2 (~65.1% screen-to-body ratio) screen, pushing a resolution of 768 x 1024 pixels, 4:3 ratio (~132 ppi density), which is more than sharp enough for everyday use, streaming and a bit of gaming. The build feels well put together, and Apple has clearly paid attention to the in-hand feel. You can pick it up in a few finishes, including Black.
Performance & Software
At the heart of it sits the Apple A5 (45 nm). That combination should handle day-to-day multitasking and most games without breaking a sweat. It runs iOS 4, upgradable to iOS 9.2.1 out of the box, so the software experience feels current.
Camera
The camera setup is one of the talking points here, with a 0.7 MP sensor doing the heavy lifting. It is not a pro camera rig, but for everyday memories it gets the job done nicely.
Battery
Keeping the lights on is a Non-removable Li-Po 6930 mAh battery (25 Wh) cell, which should comfortably see most people through a full day on a single charge.
Our Opinion
After spending time with the spec sheet and what Apple is promising, here is where we land. What you are getting is a device that quietly covers the fundamentals rather than shouting about them. It gets the basics right, offering strong battery life, a dependable main camera, a crisp display, which is exactly what most buyers are really after. If your priority is a phone that just works, day in and day out, then this one deserves a spot on your shortlist. You could nitpick a few things, as you can with any phone in this bracket. Even so, the Apple iPad 2 CDMA holds its own and represents a solid, no-nonsense buy.
